How admission works at this level

PhD admission in China is supervisor-driven. Securing an acceptance letter from a professor whose research matches your proposal is usually the decisive step, and it typically unlocks the strongest funding packages available.

Entry requirements

• Recognised master's degree
• Usually aged under 40 at enrolment
• Research proposal aligned with a named supervisor or laboratory
• Two academic recommendation letters, typically from professors

Mandatory document checklist

• Passport valid at least 18 months
• Master's degree certificate and full transcripts
• Bachelor's degree certificate and transcripts
• Research proposal (typically 1,500–3,000 words)
• Two academic recommendation letters
• Publication list where applicable
• Supervisor acceptance letter where the university requires it
• Curriculum vitae
• English or Chinese proficiency evidence
• Foreigner physical examination form
• Non-criminal record certificate

Scholarship routes

• Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) — full funding with monthly stipend
• Provincial and university doctoral scholarships
• Supervisor research-grant funded positions
